"Hillend Engineering produce good quality vehicles, developed for the specifics of the job."
Tommy Howieson
South Ayrshire Council
South Ayrshire Council have worked hard to meet their environmental goals,
reducing the amount of food waste going to landfill. Since 2013 they have had separate, weekly food waste collections, so are very familiar with the challenges that these specialist collections can create.
Often forming a considerable proportion of food waste is fresh fruit, salad and drinks; given the high moisture content of these food types, a major challenge is avoiding leakage and spillage during the collection process.
Tommy Howieson, South Ayrshire’s Waste Management Team Leader, says that the Council has 6 food waste vehicles in total, serving over 59,500 households and the region’s hospitality outlets, and the biggest benefit of these Hillend Engineering specialist products is their sealed bodies that ensure they are leak-free.
The vehicles are driver friendly, with a small footprint to cope with narrow rural roads, while keeping a good capacity to enable them to stay out as long as possible for fully efficient collections.
